Reports To: Driller / Toolpusher
Job Summary:
The Derrickman will be responsible for working on the drilling rig’s derrick or mast, particularly
handling the top section of the drill string during tripping operations (inserting or removing pipe
from the wellbore). He/she will maintain mud systems and monitors drilling fluid properties.
This is a physically demanding and safety-critical role.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate in the derrick during tripping operations, guiding drill pipe into and out of the
elevator and assisting the Driller.
• Maintain and monitor drilling fluid systems (mud), including mixing chemicals, checking
viscosity, density, and ensuring proper circulation.
• Inspect and maintain mud pumps, shale shakers, degassers, desanders, desilters, and
other mud system components.
• Assist in rigging up/down operations and ensure proper handling of tubulars and other
equipment.
• Ensure that equipment and work areas are cleaned and maintained in a safe,
operational state.
• Work closely with the Driller and Rig Floor crew to ensure smooth and safe operations.
• Comply with all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Report any safety hazards or equipment failures to supervisors immediately.
• Participate in safety meetings, drills, and toolbox talks as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
• At least 2 years of experience as a Floor hand or Roughneck; previous derrick work
preferred.
• Physically fit and comfortable working at heights for extended periods.
• Strong understanding of drilling fluid properties and mud system equipment.
• Ability to follow instructions precisely and work effectively in a team.
